The Agony and the Ecstasy
Last night, my prediction almost came true. No, not any sort of World Series prediction, but a pre-season prediction involving AJ Burnett. One in which he gets so stressed out that he ends up in a snot covered fetal position and Doc and Arnsberg need to come pick him up. I must admit I felt bad for him after seeing his crestfallen face in the Yankee dugout. 6 outs, dude. AJ was lights-out dominant in his first start, and then he does this. Yankee fans were flipping out, but that is like flipping out because a zebra has stripes. It's what the boy does. It has nothing to do with short rest.
"It’s the worst feeling in the world, to have a chance to do something special and fail like that. … I feel like I let the city down.”
At least it was a spectacular failure.
The Globe and Mail has a World Series MVP poll...and these are the options: Jeter, CC, ARod, Mo, Johnny Damon.
Does anyone else see the problem with this list? Not only are there no Phillies (the series isn't done yet), there is no Chase Utley. Even if the Phillies lose, Chase is making the case for MVP anyway.
And game 6 will be epic. Old school (ie a decade ago) epic. Pedro vs. Pettite. Series on the line. Sign me up.
Even if the Yankees end up winning, this has been the best, most entertaining Series in years. There has been seriously awesome pitching. People have stepped up and people have sucked. And it's been damn fine entertainment. But why are they still playing in November? Too many off days doesn't challenge a team.
And Yankees? Piss off with the mound visits.
Oh and blah, blah Cito's back, Arnsberg's gone. I really liked Arnsberg, but I just want to know why it was that so many young pitchers were injured and missed significant time under his watch. Coincidence?
