Swagger

Cliff Lee actually looked like he might have deserved the '08 Cy Young. Perhaps Doc was sitting at home feeling a little less robbed. I just hope Lee's smooth plays don't get him shot. Also, it seems Chase Utley, and his helmet of hair, was seeing C.C. just fine.

I don't remember whether it was before the ALDS or the ALCS when Jeff Blair wrote that many in New York were quietly panicking about the idea that if C.C. loses the first game, they would have to depend on A.J. to re-establish parity in the series and not waste home field advantage.

So I'm guessing that today things are a little tense in New York.

I laughed a little on the international feed when the colour guy said that A.J. Burnett was a lot like old Pedro Martinez. Meaning hard throwing with lots of stuff. But he also said "Like old Pedro, but with no command." So, not at all like Old Pedro. Or New Pedro.

I really like Pedro. I like his stuff (when he was the best in baseball), I like that he has tried to reinvent himself. I like that he was tough as nails even though he is not much bigger than me. I really like the story of Martinez trying to get David Ortiz a job with the Red Sox. I like the story that he took Vlad Guerrero under his wing in Montreal and showed him where he could find Dominican food, when Guerrero was quite literally right off the farm. And I especially like his dedication and respect for the Montreal Expos and the city that was their home. He dedicated part of his '04 World Series win to the people of Montreal, who had such a great team in the strike shortened '94 season.

Also, Pedro gives a good interview. Boring ball players are useless to me. And the dude has something all greats have. Swagger.

And now, tonight, Pedro Martinez will answer this long asked question: Are the Yankees your Daddy?

In other news...the umpires actually got one right. And Jimmy Rollins was a bit of a genius.

And Cliff Lee did this
