What Did You Learn From Me, Dude?
I've missed this guy. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he got stuffed and booed and took the loss, while Doc clearly demonstrated why he is the man and Burnett is the boy. But honestly, the earnestness is very endearing.
"Besides familiarity, the Blue Jays tried to use another weapon against Burnett: the old let-us-take-you-out-for-dinner-the-night-before-the-game ploy.
"They were wondering if I wanted to go to dinner," Burnett said. "I was like, 'No, I don't think so, guys. You're not going to butter me up before a game.'"
Oh, boys...the old let-us-take-you-out-for-dinner-the-night-before-the-game ploy never works.
"The main thing I gathered from him is preparation and focus. I never really watched videos or paid that much attention until I got around him. He's locked into every game when he's not pitching. I try to do that when I'm not pitching also."
Halladay declined to talk about Burnett.
Oh burn.
"It's funny, because when we parted ways, I told him, 'Thanks for everything. You've been a huge influence,' And he said, 'Thanks. I learned a lot from you, too.' I kind of laughed -- 'What did you learn from me, dude?' It goes both ways. We had a great relationship and I always wish him the best, except for (today). He's going to be focused and so am I."
If AJ had a uterus, he'd totally have Doc's babies.
