Random Thoughts and Feelings
Finally, a bat flip debate with no villains. Max Muncy had every right to stare at his homer and Madison Bumgarner had every right to yell at him. Anything short of physical violence should be fair game.
“Go get it in the ocean” is hilarious and should be on t-shirts.
The news that broke earlier in the week about the Yankees inquiring about Stroman and it being framed as “making sense” by certain members of the media irritated me to the point of not watching the game on Sunday.
Sure, it makes sense if you view your players like stocks in your portfolio, pieces to move around. If that is your context, it makes sense.
Let’s put it in a different context: Stroman is homegrown talent, not old or past his prime, is the only consistent pitcher the Jays have been running out this season, one who has expressed, often, how much he loves the city and the country. Let’s trade him not only to a team in the same division, but to the Yankees. THE YANKEES. That’s great for the brand, for the fan base.
All of this, coupled with Charlie Montoyo saying that Edwin Jackson was going to make his next start because the Jays didn’t have anyone else, it was a lot to take.
How did I feel? Kind of like Andrew Benintendi yelling at Vic Carapazza.
Fangraphs wrote, “Everyone should want Marcus Stroman”. Yeah, so should the Blue Jays.
I made the joke earlier in the season that the Orioles have barely fielded an MLB team. And it is really starting to look like the Jays haven’t either. I can’t even call this a re-build.
It’s a failure to engage.
I mean, this is quote from the manager of a MLB team:
We don’t have anybody else.
I still can’t quite get over the vibe of Game 5 of the NBA Finals. It felt wrong that Durant was in the game at all, almost like he had been coerced into doing it, then the fans waving at him when Durant wrecked his Achilles and then the Warriors GM crying in the post-game presser afterwards. Durant hung over the whole thing, like a ghost in the attic.
I suggest that the Raptors go hard after it in Game 6. They technically have two shots at this damn thing, but I think it’s a monumentally bad idea to let the Warriors hang around. Crush them.
Also, winning your first title on the road is pretty fun.
