Proof of Life: Jays Force Game 5
It’s not just that the Jays won last night, though that was fantastic. It’s that they played like they can play. They were their best selves.
Aaron Sanchez demonstrated, once again, why he is one of the most exciting young talents in baseball. Josh Donaldson reminded everyone why he is the reigning MVP.
And Terry Francona, who had been touted as a genius for the first three games, was a little bit of a bonehead.
Um, he’s wondering why Francona loaded the bases to face one of the best hitters in baseball.
There is still a lot of work, obviously, but getting past Kluber after losing to him in Game 1 is not a small thing. With Trevor Bauer’s finger looking like a blood sausage and Carasco and Salazar out of commission, it’s basically Kluber, Tomlin and rookie Ryan Merritt.
A rookie who Bautista hilariously/brazenly poked at in the post-game. Much to the outrage of the media. (You might say they clucked their tongues and stroked their beards.)
Nothing Bautista says here is wrong. They have a lot of experience. Merritt does not. Bautista is basically saying they have no reason to be afraid. And the follow up quote indicates it’s not nearly as much dick swinging as it might first appear.
This gamesmanship has been going on between these two teams all season.
The Dean Blundell Show this morning was unlistenable. Fans are tired of this act. Casey Stern: Bautista doesn’t play as hard are Donaldson (who is just like Dustin Pedroia), Bautista tries to hit a homer every time he’s up (no, he doesn’t. His eye at the plate is his big tool, he’s always done that.) Implied Josh Donaldson was less brazen than Bautista (HAHAHAHAHHA here’s a message.)
So demure.
Which feeds this nonsense:
James with some truth tonic.
One of the greatest athletes/sports figures to ever play in this city. Let's celebrate the shit out of Jose Bautista. This might be the end tonight.
But it better not be.
