Bits

David Purcey is a left handed relief pitcher for the Jays. He has feet so big you could sail the 7 seas in them. The Star had an amusing article about Purcey's massive feet. The most amusing part of it was this:

“You haven’t seen them. Come here, (you) gotta see them,” Frasor says, bouncing over to the locker belonging to teammate David Purcey. He reaches in and pulls something out. “Look . . . it’s a monster!”

Why is it amusing? Jason Frasor is a grown man and any grown man being described as "bouncing" anywhere is inherently amusing. Jason Frasor is also a tiny, tiny man. Tiny, bouncing pitcher.

Also interesting, Josh Hamilton has size 19 feet. And Jon Rauch, though a big un, has comparatively tiny size 13 feet. We should be concerned about his structural soundness. He could collapse and take out the whole bullpen.

Oh and on the whole deal? It's hardly an albatross. If it is a sea bird, it's a seagull. I think it's mostly people bored and cold, and they need something to get fired up about. Because if you put it in perspective, if you looked for a player who can give the team what Jose Bautista gives the team, you are going to have to pay for it. And considering that Albert Pujols might just command 30 million dollars a season, the team is going to have to pay for talent. It might not turn out so well, but there is no way this is crippling.

Damien Cox's vaguely racist conversation with Bautista on Prime Time Sports is not so surprising. Cox is an idiot, after all. Bautista is articulate, but not for a Latin guy but rather for an athlete. Athletes are usually the kings of the platitude and Bautista actually gives the impression that he thinks about things. The only thing that sort of disappointed me was that Cox wasn't questioned at all about all the "got to at least ask the question" business from last summer. But most likely, it was better to focus on the deal and it also might indicate that Bautista isn't aware of the particulars of that story, which is probably for the best.

Travis Snider has a muscle pull that is preventing him from working out fully. He got it by doing what he is doing in the above picture, but on an actual course and before the season started. Travis, while meats may not, Golf Does Clash.
