Faceless
A few days later, and it's still true. Despite what others are saying, we definitely gave up the better player to the Angels. But the better player was tied into that ugly contract, and that's the reason to celebrate. Money has been freed up for the future and something new can happen.
Napoli is perfectly serviceable and AA is still a genius. I doubt it as calculated as this, but it's almost like AA is cleaning the decks. All of Gord Ash's major draft sucesses now play for other teams (and yeah, that's them in the picture.) The disappointments and frustrations of the JP years are being wiped away.
From Ricky Romero's Twitter feed: I wanna wish the best of luck to @vernonwells10... Not only a great player and teammate but a tremendous person off the field with such a good heart. He will be missed in our clubhouse... A REAL a PRO on and off the field. Good luck my man!!!
Who is the new face of the franchise? Both Halladay and Wells dominated not only on the field (one more than the other, I know) and also did tremendous amount of work in the Toronto community. And both were class acts. Halladay didn't like to draw attention to himself and Wells never moaned about the fans booing him at home. Note in the Cabbie video, when Cabbie is incredulous that fans boo Wells and Vernon, rather quietly, says, "Rightfully so, though." Having both men out of the clubhouse means a change in the personality of the team. Who is going to set the tone?
Hill, Romero, Snider and Bautista. Those are the four names that are being thrown around. It'll be interesting to see who the new player rep for the union will be. It was Wells for a long, long time. There is actually no point in speculating because all of those guys are going to be traded.
AA is considering trading me. Apparently other teams are interested. I could go at any time.
Change, change, change.
"They could become very good, very fast..." is the kind of analysis I like, Keith Law.
