Instead of doing an in-depth analysis of the game yesterday afternoon —a game I didn’t actually watch— I thought I would just write about tweets about the game.

Handsome Randy hits the ball really hard and I’m looking for him to break out this season.

As I followed this game on social media as I was wandering around Toronto, I thought of last season’s Opening Day. I watched it in a crowd at the Rec Room and I remember the disquiet when we realized that Josh Donaldson couldn’t make throws to first base.

That feels like a decade ago. And this lineup really lacks lustre without their prize prospect.

Zimmerman was perfect into the 7th inning and I was relieved when Teoscar Hernández legged out an infield single to break it up.

I’m all for perfect games, but I wasn’t in the mood. Feel free to do the same thing to the Yankees and Red Sox, Jordan.

Marcus Stroman shoved and it was just a shame his offense just couldn’t get it going. Like I said, the lineup is lacking a little lustre. May the lustre’s oblique get well soon.

Beer was cheap. The Toronto Star had a piece about the home opener.

This was from the day after, but it really speaks to a fundamental thing. It often seems like in baseball, there are teams that win and teams that develop.

I went to the live-recording of the Yahoo! Sports Digging In podcast that was presented by Pitch Talks and it was honestly one of my favourite Pitch Talk events ever.

J.P. Arencibia is really good at this. He was knowledgeable, had done his research and he had a sense of humour about himself. I particularly appreciated his insight on the value of a Spanish-speaking manager. It’s not easy to be an analyst and Arencibia made it look that way.

Arencibia also seems to like baseball, which may seem like it should be a given, but some of these former player analysts seem to really hate it.

I asked the question about free agency. And that is also me audibly booing the concept of the opener. When Nick Ashbourne mentions the Jays possibly using an opener in the future, in a season when they look to contend, I wanted to grab the mic and suggest that they should maybe just sign some starting pitching. Openers, if they have to be used at all, should be used in garbage time seasons or in the case of zombie apocalypse and there is some sort of pitching shortage. It is not a long term solution for a winning team.

Don’t be so cheap.

When I was in Dunedin, one of the Jays’ relievers had this as his warm up song. Kid Cudi is one of the best melancholy rappers. It’s lush and fragmented.
