Preliminary Thoughts on Playoffs
The division series have happened and a few front runners fell short.
The Atlanta Braves (other than the “chop”— seriously, stop doing that) are infinitely more interesting than either the Nationals or the St. Louis Cardinals. I like their combination of young, dazzling homegrown talent (Acuña) with veterans (Donaldson) and I like Mike Sorotka. He pitched like a beast this season, something that was under-reported in the Canadian press. Interest in baseball (from a press standpoint) really does fluctuate with how well the Blue Jays are doing.
As the Braves did the irritating thing by losing to the effin’ St. Louis Cardinals, I guess I’m team Nationals. But if the media keeps trying to link the Nationals to Expos’ history, I’m officially team no-one.
I don’t know what exactly happened to the Dodgers, other than they didn’t hit and Dave Roberts managed that last game like he wanted to be fired. If Kershaw was going to come in, it should have been for that one batter to end the inning. Joe Kelly got out of one inning cleanly, why play with fire with a rested bullpen? David, sometimes I think you want to fail.
So, why didn’t you use Maeda?
“I wanted to keep Kenta away from Soto,” Roberts said.
And so why did you put Kelly back out there?
A baseball manager really does get hired to get fired.

The ALCS has the two winningest teams in the AL in 2019, so it does seem fitting. Who am I cheering for?
