HUM & CHUCK

Danny, the Champion of the World

I knew Danny Jansen was a good egg when I saw his Twitter header, which features him and his BFF Ryan Borucki. Both are about the same age and they've been chasing each other through the Jays minor league system and have now arrived.

Jansen also provided one of the only bright spots in a rather lacklustre split series with the Kansas City Royals, a team that has won 18 fewer games than the Blue Jays.

Jansen hit his first big league homer on August 14th, the season became joyous for a moment

Gibby was complimentary:

Ah yes, the damn ball.

With the youth movement very much upon us, this is probably where Russell Martin's talents can be used: helping Danny Jansen continue to become a well-rounded defensive catcher.

It's just exciting to watch this kid come up and do baseball things.

Remember excitement? And joy?

And then this:

Shut it, Mike Reeves.

Missing Baseball Blood Feuds

Playing the Royals this week reminded me that there was once a baseball blood feud between these teams.

Josh Donaldson's face, Josh Donaldson's audible potty mouth, Buck Martinez's blood lust for playoff baseball, Bautista's "I got you, bro" hit (not shown), the tossing of Sanchez, Buck's outrage about that, Gibby coming back on the field after he was ejected.

I miss it. I miss it so hard.

In some ancient baseball blood feud action, the Giants and Dodgers got into it this week. They are destined to do this every once in a while. The Baseball Gods command it.

Yasiel Puig slapped his bat after missing a pitch and slapped Nick Hundley's big mouth.

And when I say "slapped", I mean slapped. Like "what did five fingers say to the face?" slapped.
