Odds and Ends

Big ups, of course, to Roy Halladay for winning the NL Cy Young award. Considering he pitched two no-hitters (one was perfect, one was in his first ever post-season start), lead the Phillies to their third straight NLCS and was generally the cyborg we knew and loved in Toronto, it isn't that much of a shock. The delicious irony is that the winner of the two previous awards, Tim (Timmeh) Lincecum won what Doc wants most of all, a World Series ring. That irony is chocolate dipped.

I finally saw the second part of Ken Burn's The 10th Inning. Between the Mitchell Report and witnessing the events that turned Red Sox fans from lovable underdogs to entitled assholes, it was clear just how interesting, dramatic and completely obnoxious the first decade of the 21st century was for baseball. It featured a very mellow Pedro Martinez, with his sleepy eyes and slurred Dominican consonants. When he's not tossing old men, he seems like a pleasant dude. Hell of a pitcher, too.

Manny Ramirez is hanging out in Toronto. A lot. It's no secret that I have a lot of affection for the dude and want him in a Jays uniform, even though some people don't like him (hi Miss Findlay.) If you are looking for hard line pro and con lists, you aren't going to find them here. I just think it'll be fun.

I don't know why Manny is hanging around Toronto if he isn't schmoozing with the Jays' front office. Let's speculate. He was in the Eaton's Centre. Maybe he likes those geese, suspended in the air. Maybe he likes the giant picture of Adriana Lima at the new Victoria's Secret store. The Swarovski tree might be up. Perhaps, like a magpie, Manny is transfixed by the sparkling crystals. "Muy brilliante", he might say.

Cheap with incentives, AA. Cheap with incentives.

Happy trails, John Buck. PowderBlue will miss your thighs most of all.
