Shopping Scott

Everyone is a buzz and a twitter about Blair saying the Jays are shopping Scott Rolen and looking to sign Orlando Cabrera. This move, like many of JP's moves, feels about 2-3 seasons too late. I know Cabrera has business ties in Canada (left over from his Expo days) and expressed an interest in playing in Toronto a few years ago. Cabrera played for the Red Sox in the best way one can. Arrive mid-season, win first WS in 86 years and get the fuck out of town.

Lloyd the Barber, passionate defender of Rolen, points out that Cabrera is a whiner for bitching and feuding with Ozzie Guillen. It brings to mind my conversation with my dad after the intro press conference featuring an affable Scott Rolen. "Dad," I said. "He seems really funny. I thought he was a grumpy pants, feuding with managers etc." My dad replied "He feuded with Larry Bowa. I'd feud with Larry Bowa. Larry Bowa is an asshole."

Which is not to say I'm behind this move. I really like watching Scott Rolen fire rockets to first base and if he is healthy, he has a nice bat. The last thing this team needs is to start stripping offense.

Worst of all, this just smells cheap. Cheap, cheap, cheap. It also smells like a walking Doc.

Cue Rod Barajas, heavy sigh.
