A Decade of Hum and Chuck: Buck 65 on....
...The Broadcasting Issue
In the last few years, there's been a lot of talk about changes that can be made to Major League Baseball in order to draw a bigger audience. My two cents? The game is fine. The way it's presented is the problem. Across the board, broadcasts of big league games stink. The production stinks. The graphics stink. And worst of all, the broadcasters stink. All of them. I'm sorry. Vin Scully was god and now he's gone. It's just awful, awful, awful. How are kids or is anyone else supposed to engage with the game when the people whose job it is to guide them through the experience are super-boring, out of touch and out of date? It's a disaster. There's one decent booth in baseball and that's the Mets team of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling. That's it. I'm as hardcore a baseball fan as they come and I've had to switch off great games because the broadcast was so bad. That's the problem right there. Plain and simple. I have some radical ideas. Mr. Manfred, if you want to hear them, gimme a call.
The first time I'd heard of Buck 65 was around the time the CBC Radio's 50 Tracks discussions in 2005. When Rich Terfry (his real name) followed me on Twitter half a decade later, I sent him a link to my blog and he tweeted me the thing I like to hear the most when I mention my blog to people I admire or otherwise enjoy,
"I know. I've read it."
He hosts Radio 2 Drive on most weekdays and we often DM about music.
And maybe we'll actually get to a game sometime.
